The Concrete Grassland project, by Georgian director Shorena Tevzadze, has received a Unifrance Doc Award during the 69th DOK Leipzig, a festival dedicated to animation and documentary films, which is taking place in Germany from October 26 to November 1.
The project is produced, on the Georgian side, by Elene Margvelashvili (Parachute films) and Shorena Tevzadze (DiaFilm), and on the French side, by Adriana Ferrarese (Ceresa Films).
As a reminder, these awards, initiated by Unifrance and supported by TITRAFILM recognize a documentary project in development presented as a pitch or work-in-progress (WIP) at major documentary film festivals. Three awards are presented each year.
Concrete Grassland will, thanks to this award, receive subtitling support provided by TITRAFILM. Its French producer, Adriana Ferrarese will be offered a one-year membership in Unifrance (within the feature film producers’ association).
The jury, composed of Beke Rienitz, development producer and screenwriter (Little Dream Pictures), Mónica Hernández Rejón, producer, director, and programmer (Pråmfilm / Stockholm Latin American Film Festivalet), and Stéphanie Fuchs, CEO (Autlook Filmsales), stated: “The Unifrance Doc Award goes to a project that transforms a deeply personal story into a cinematic reflection on how political events shape the lives of ordinary people. Through an intimate portrait of a young family waiting for a home that never materialises, the film captures the passage of time, the fragility of hope, and the human cost of living in a society drifting towards authoritarianism. With its striking visual approach, evocative use of music and sensitive perspective, the project promises a film that moves seamlessly from the personal to the political. In recognition of its powerful vision and its ability to make a complex reality tangible through the lives of its protagonists, we are delighted to give the award to Concrete Grassland."
