Synopsis
In October 2025, the Lilas maternity hospital, near Paris, closed its doors after 61 years of activity around painless childbirth, abortion, and women’s right to control their bodies. This emblematic institution in the history of feminist struggles was forced to close due to an old and growing financial deficit, which is indicative of the decline of public health in France over the past several decades. This film chronicles the daily life of the maternity ward during its final three years and the struggle of its team against its impending closure. The film is an elegy for Les Lilas, named after the ancient poetic form that sings in a melancholic tone of love, but also of separation and death.
