Submitted once again by French in Motion, two fiction films, a documentary, and a TV series initiated by France have been selected for the 2017 IFP Film Week, the only co-production market in the USA, which will be held in New York from September 17 through 21.
IFP Film Week gives independent producers the opportunity to connect with American and international industry professionals who can help them move their projects forward: producers, financers, agents, distributors, and broadcasters (including HBO, Amazon, Netflix, A&E, Warner, and Sony).
Benefiting from support from UniFrance and the French Embassy in New York, French In Motion—a New York-based non-for-profit organization that brings together French and American professionals in movie, television, and new media industries who wish to develop collaborative projects—continues its partnership with IFP Film Week in order to present ambitious projects from France. IFP Week's final selection includes four projects initiated by France (compared to three in 2016):
- The feature film project The Man Who Sold His Skin by Kaouther Ben Hania, produced by Tanit Films, will tell the story of a Syrian refugee who makes a Faustian deal with a tattoo artist: by becoming her "human work of art," he might finally be able to enter Europe.
- The feature film The Room by Christian Volckman (Renaissance), produced by Les Films du Poisson, recounts the story of a couple who move to a new house where they find a mysterious Aladdin's lamp.
- The animated TV series Brazen, Rebel Ladies Who Rock the World, produced by Agat Films & Cie and directed by Sarah Saidan, is based on the comic books by Pénélope Beau. 30 mini-portraits of women who are extravagant, revolutionary, and adventurous in their own way.
- The documentary Game Girls, produced by Films de Force Majeure and directed by Alina Skrzeszewska, follows the everyday battles of a homeless woman in Los Angeles' Skid Row neighborhood.
