For its 15th edition, the Rome Independent Film Festival, which traditionally took place in May, shifted its dates to the end of November. No less than 11 French films (shorts and features combined) were selected.
The RIFF 2016 was thus an occasion to rediscover strong titles already noticed at this year's edition of the Festival de Cannes, such as The Girl Without Hands by Sébastien Laudenbach, Limbo by Konstantina Kotzamani, and Léthé by Dea Kulumbegashvili. But this year, the French films were characterized by the diversity of genres. Documentary, animation fiction: all categories were represented.
This profusion was reflected in the awards:
- Best Documentary: A Young Girl in her Nineties by Valeria Bruni-Tedeschi & Yann Coridian (photo)
- Best Animated Short Film: Playground by Francis Gavelle & Claire Inguimberty
- Best International Short Film - Special Mention: Minh Tâm by Vincent Maury.
