On March 4, a convivial breakfast event gathered together established movie industry professionals from the feature film sales and production sectors along with short filmmaker members of UniFrance films.
At this year's event, it was Nathalie Jeung (Le Pacte) and Clément Duboin (Urban Sales) who made themselves available for a Question & Answer session and shared their experiences in the industry for over 90 minutes with a dozen producers, three of whom received awards at the most recent Cesar Awards (Jean-Christophe Soulageon, Maxime Delauney, and Romain Rousseau).
Held just a few weeks before he took up his new position at the CNC, the deputy director of Unifrance Xavier Lardoux moderated the discussions, during which a wide range of subjects was addressed, including the unanticipated success of Timbuktu, the importance of considering film exports both in terms of market regions and possible distribution channels, and the lack of transparency in relations between distributors and sales agents.
While this morning event focused attention once again on the transition between making shorts and feature films, it also provided an opportunity to initiate discussions on measures to be implemented in order to ensure better monitoring of the performance of French productions in international markets, an example of which is the in-depth work currently undertaken by the UniFrance Markets and Surveys department.
