This brand new event hosted by UniFrance Films in Spain drew large numbers of spectators in Madrid, Barcelona, and Seville who came out to discover seven French films and meet with a host of French artists.
The inaugural edition of the Tu Cita con el Cine Francés event was held in Madrid from October 16 through 19, with connected events also held in Seville and Barcelona. It was an occasion for Spanish audiences to discover French films that have not yet been released in Spain, boosted by the presence of actors and directors who made the trip to meet with spectators, as well as UniFrance Films president Jean-Paul Salomé and our executive director Isabelle Giordano.
Among the French artists present at the event, Christian Clavier and Philippe de Chauveron were on hand for the opening ceremony, which featured a screening of Serial (Bad) Weddings. The main theater of the Ideal Cinema (Yelmo Group), which seats 390 spectators, was packed to the doors. The film was also presented by the director the following day at the MK2 CineSur Nervion Plaza in Seville (Spain's most popular movie theater).
All of the other screenings in Madrid, held in a 310-seat theater, filled the venue to an average level of 70% of its capacity, for a total attendance of 1 570 spectators : 3 Hearts by Benoit Jacquot, screened in his presence; Return to Ithaca by Laurent Cantet, who also led a master class for 70 students at the TAI (Escuela Universitaria de Artes y Espectaculos); The Price of Fame, presented by the actress Dolorès Chaplin; Ariane's Thread, presented by the inseparable duo Robert Guédiguian/Ariane Ascaride (to a packed audience), with the duo also leading a master class for students at the TAI; Tip Top, in the presence of the electric Serge Bozon (the film was also screened in Barcelona); and French Women, screened in the presence of screenwriter/director Audrey Dana and her co-screenwriter Murielle Magellan.
