A report published April 2 by the French Government Audit Office highlights the key role played by digital initiatives in the export and promotion of French films.
Following the release of this report by the French Audit Office on support schemes for the film and television production industries, Unifrance welcomes its findings concerning competitivity in the export of French films and initiatives undertaken to promote French cinema, particularly in the area of digital media, such as the Online French Film Festival MyFrenchFilmFestival organized by Unifrance.
The Audit Office report recommends a reprioritization of public funding for the film and television sectors via a selective aid scheme targeting prospection and innovation. It devotes a case study (p. 157) to MyFrenchFilmFestival, the trail-blazing initiative hosted by Unifrance, an annual digital French film festival (showcasing 10 feature films and 10 short films available in 13 languages across the globe), which was created by UniFrance films in 2011 and has enjoyed increasing success each year, with 4 million French films viewed online around the world during the 2014 edition of the festival.
