Synopsis
Since the mid-2000s, Iran and Israel have been waging a covert war in which anything goes. Israel is determined to prevent Iran from developing a military nuclear program. Iran, for its part, insists on its “inalienable right” to enrich uranium and views its nuclear program as essential to its identity and as the only means of maintaining its regional hegemony. This conflict serves as the overarching theme and framework for understanding all the geopolitical tensions of recent years between Israel and the West on one side, and Iran, its Syrian and Russian allies, as well as the Hamas and Hezbollah militias, on the other.
