Synopsis
What does it mean to become a mother? What are the different emotions that come with the arrival of a child? They read on the birth announcements: “We are overjoyed…” and that’s what they expected: joy. Five women who do not identify with the mainstream narrative and media portrayal share their ambivalent experiences. They talk about their transformations, their births to themselves and to the world as mothers. Five women tell their stories to a sixth, who doesn’t know what she wants. With courage, humour and insight, they speak out to confront a conceptual void and to fuel dissent against anxiety-inducing stereotypes.
