Synopsis
Kelly is 17 years old. Every morning, she wakes up at dawn to go work at the local supermarket as an apprentice cashier. Yet her dreams lie far from these cold aisles and her classmates. She wants to settle in her small family harbor and become an eel fisher, just like her father, grandfather, and great-grandfather before her. At the end of a long road cutting through the marshes—where only a few ruins hint at traces of human life—stands the port of Les Callonges. Kelly spends her time there with her grandfather Coco, now retired. He worries about his granddaughter’s future. Glass eel fishing is on the verge of being banned, signaling the end of the trade for all small-scale fishers on the Gironde Estuary. By the end of the year, Kelly will take her vocational certificate in sales at the high school near her village. She will have to choose which path she wants to follow. But will she truly have a choice?
