Synopsis
"Years ago, I was working on a movie..." is both a documentary "sort of" and a series of stories being told by Tom Jarmusch, driving his car while I'm shooting the lights of New York City at night. It is a journey, a promenade, wandering the streets of the city as well as Tom's stories about NYC in the 90ies, and cinema, and stores that don't exist anymore. It is also a documentary about the birth of a friendship. I shot this film in 2004 and only finished it in 2022. Somehow, I must have known it would get better when the "I" of its title could refer to both Tom and myself, and that the "years ago" would refer, in a vertiginous way, to the 90s, for Tom, as well as years the 2000s, for me, echoing today.
