L'Educatrice

L'Educatrice

A Feature film by Pascal Kané

Produced by 13 Productions

Release in France : 03/04/1996

    Synopsis

Louise’s first job as a remedial teacher is in a home for “problem children” where everyone, even the house psychiatrist, seems disillusioned. Louise is stubborn and strong-willed and buckles down to conquer the hostility of the girls who give her a hard time. She builds up a powerful relationship with Stéphanie, a new arrival whose hostility and silence seem to hide a heavy secret. Ignoring the psychiatrist’s warnings, Louise gets drawn in deeper than she should and spurs the girl into actions that no-one can foresee or control.

    About

"As someone interested in remedial institutions and more particularly in the dangerousness of females, I wanted to tell a story about a bond which grows too strong between a remedial teacher and a maladjusted girl. Affection of this sort raises a host of questions including that of limits. How far can a strong, personal relationship go between a remedial teacher and a minor? When does it overstep the bounds of duty? All remedial teachers have to fight out this question with themselves. An error of judgement can quickly have the direst consequences. Louise makes the worst mistake, which is to think that love conquers all. Frustrated love can turn so easily to hate, and then your job is not to save the other’s soul but your own skin. A cruel lesson in life!"
