Maxime, 25, arrives in Paris, a city he doesn’t know. He’s on his way to link up with the woman he loves in India… At the bar of the Raphael Hotel, he meets Jack Lesterhoof, a rich businessman who offers him the job of being his interpreter for an important business meeting. Maxime accepts. So begins a friendship between the two men. Maxime calls the shots most of the time. He has a gift of being able to tap into people’s true selves and doesn’t hesitate to do so. His capacity to expose hypocrisy and things left unsaid is matched by his extraordinary intuition. Jack is so overwhelmed by Maxime’s sensitivity and innocence that he questions what he’s made of his own life. He decides to drop everything, abandon his routine and accompany Maxime to India, that country of contrasts. They go to Pondicherry where Maxime tracks down Justine the woman he loves… But she has now become a nun. Meanwhile Jack discovers that he lacks a spiritual core and his schizophrenia sends him over the edge. Maxime and Jack move closer to the state of Being Light, devoid of their illusions, on the brink of life, brimming with a visionary disenchantment.
