Synopsis
Marek the Pole and Mimmo the Italian have been coal miners here in Lorraine, on the German border, since they were sixteen. Their routine after work scarcely varies: drink beer with their workmates, hang out in the striptease joints in Nasweiler, race their cars... In December 1995 they are both twenty-five. A lightning strike is called at the mine. As it gathers strength, so does the tension between Marek and Mimmo...

About
I feel close to Mimmo in many ways. We both come from Sardinian families and walk with our head in the stars. We both value honesty and loyalty in friendship. Compared with me, Mimmo is more naive. When he meets this kind of shady mobster, Jaeger, he lets himself be charmed and lured and manipulated. Jaeger represents “elsewhere”, “the unknown”, a way to escape from his life as a miner. He tries to make the break but quickly sees his mistake. His place is next to his friend, who has chosen to stand and fight. (Bruno Putzulu - “Le Figaro”, November 27th 1998)
