Synopsis
In Vietnam, in Ho Chi Minh City, a young 18-year-old works as a cycle-rickshaw driver. He lives with his grandfather and two sisters in a poor neighbourhood. One day, his work vehicle that he rents from his female boss is stolen. To pay for it, he is obliged to carry out a few acts of sabotage. But he is soon caught up in a world of crime...

"When Hung first told me about “Cyclo”, the words he used to define the film were: work, father-son relations, good, evil... We reached an agreement on the main orientation of the film. Then he left for Vietnam for three months to write the screenplay. (...) Shooting lasted four months, an ordeal for everyone but so enthralling! (...) “Cyclo” is also 80 sets, 30 actors, 8,000 extras, 30 French technicians, 12 tons of material... all shipped to Vietnam by plane or boat from France and Hong Kong... for a total budget of 38 million francs. (...)"
