The idea for Belle Toujours occurred to me unexpectedly and, as I had a wish to pay tribute to Luís Buñuel and Jean-Claude Carrière, I was pleased to have found a way to do so, perhaps the best way, and I set to work. What is it about? It takes two of the strange characters from the film Belle de Jour and brings them back to life thirty-eight years later in the odd situation where a secret is known only to the male character and the female character is anxious to uncover it… Manoel De Oliveira
