Complete filmography
BiographyOf his birth in Peru forty years ago, Manuel Poirier kept both his Christian name and a deep affection for the lives of displaced people. He quickly gave up on his studies and left school to do odd jobs and try his hand at different trades. When almost in his thirties he began to make his first short films. In 1990, he left Paris for the Normandy countryside. There, he began the making of his first feature ''Antonio's Girlfriend,'' a project he'd been nurturing for four years. Thanks to the film's critical acclaim, in 1995 Manuel met Maurice Bernart, who produced ''A la campagne,'' his second feature. In the same year Manuel Poirier directed ''Attention fragile.'' Early 1997 saw the release of ''Marion,'' a story of two couples at odds over the affection of a little girl, set against a backdrop of social inequality. In 1997, ''Western'' won the Jury Prize at the Cannes International Film Festival, and went on to become a success with critics and audiences alike. He then made, in succession, “De la lumière quand même” (1999) and “Te Quiero” (2000). The later, shot in Peru, combines two of his favorite subjects: South America and people set adrift. The film will be released February 14, 2001.
