The Artist leads Golden Globe nominations, promising to be one of the awards season's big winners in the USA.
The Artist has been nominated in six categories at the prestigious Golden Globe Awards: Best Film, Best Actor, Best Supporting Actress, Best Director, Best Screenplay, and Best Musical Score.
So far, the film has been released in only a handful of American cities (New York, Los Angeles, Boston, Washington, and Chicago), with triumphant results of $922,000 from 16 prints. The Weinstein Company's objective is to keep the film showing in theaters until late February, when the Academy Awards ceremony is scheduled. The film has already picked up five awards: the coveted New York Film Critics' Award for Best Film of the Year, the New York Film Critics' Online Award, the Indiana Film Critics' Awards, the Boston Society of Film Critics' Award, and the Washington DC Film Critics' Association Award.
The Artist is also been hailed as Best Film at nine other awards ceremonies: the Broadcast Film Critics' Association Awards, the Detroit Film Critics' Awards, the Houston Film Critics' Awards, the Independent Spirit Awards, the St Louis Film Critics' Award, Satellite Award Nominations, the San Diego Film Critics Award, and the National Board of Review.
Jean Dujardin is nominated in the Best Actor category for six awards: the Broadcast Film Critics' Association Award, the St Louis Film Critics' Award, the Detroit Film Critics' Award, the Houston Film Critics' Award, the Washington DC Film Critics' Association Award, and the Independent Spirit Awards.
Director Michel Hazanavicius has already been awarded three prizes: the New York Film Critics' Award, the New York Film Critics' Online Award, and the Indiana Film Critics' Award. He has been nominated in the Best Director category for nine awards (at the same events as the Best Film nominations).
Bérénice Béjo has received four nominations in the Best Supporting Actress category.
