French films continue to pick up awards

Following Golden Globe honors last weekend for Carlos, Olivier Assayas's film that was voted Best TV Move/Miniseries, French films continue to attract attention at prestigious international award ceremonies.

At the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) Awards, Of Gods and Men by Xavier Beauvois is vying for an award in the Best Foreign-Language Film category. The French composer Alexandre Desplat is also nominated for his work on the British film The King’s Speech by Tom Hooper.

The upcoming Berlin International Film Festival will showcase Michel Ocelot's latest animated film Les Contes de la nuit and the short film Planet Z by Momoko Seto in their respective competitive categories. Les Femmes du 6ème étage by Philippe Le Guay will be presented out of competition.

In the lead-up to the Academy Awards, Outside the Law by Rachid Bouchareb has been included in the final shortlist in the Best Foreign-Language Film category. We will have to wait until January 25 for the announcement of the five nominees for this award.
