A new record for French films in South Africa

Transporter 3 has broken the admissions record for French films in South Africa set three years ago.

Released January 16 by Videovision Entertainment on 69 prints, the film produced by Luc Besson jumped to the top of the South African box office, a feat never previously achieved by a French film.

After ten days on the screens, Transporter 3 had surpassed the results of the first Transporter episode, and, three weeks later, it outstripped the score of the second episode.

By mid-March, the film directed by Olivier Mégaton is close to the 300,000 admissions mark in South Africa, bringing its current international total to over 15 million admissions.
Transporter 3 has raked in 70 million euros to date around the world.

Seven French productions hit South African screens in 2008. Among these titles, Taken (with 212,000 admissions) and Babylon A.D. (95,000 admissions) accounted for 80% of admissions registered.
