Entre les murs (The Class) by Laurent Cantet has been selected as France’s official submission in the Best Foreign-Language Film category at the Academy Awards.
Laurent Cantet’s hit film Entre les murs (The Class) has already picked up the Palme d’Or at this year’s Cannes Film Festival, awarded by a jury led by the American actor and director Sean Penn.
With numerous acquisition deals signed in various territories around the world, such as in the United States where it will be released by Sony Pictures Classics), the film is slated to open the 46th New York Film Festival (September 26 through October 12), in the presence of its director and a dozen young cast members.
Entre les murs has now been chosen by the French 2009 Oscars selection committee, composed of seven members including Thierry Frémaux, chief representative of the Cannes Film Festival, Alain Terzian, president of the Césars Academy, the actress Jeanne Moreau, and the directors Jean-Jacques Annaud, Costa-Gavras, and Régis Wargnier.
