After hitting theaters in Taiwan last weekend, Taxi 4 has jumped straight to number 1.
This is the second time this year that a French film has reached the top spot in this territory on its opening weekend (after Priceless - see our news article on this subject). Distributed by Deep Joy Investments Limited, the film has registered 40,000 spectators in 47 theaters.
Taxi 4 was also released at the same time in Japan where it is coming close to the 100,000 admissions mark on 237 prints.
Asia is clearly offering a warm welcome to the film by Gérard Kawczynky. with South Korea also registering over 150,000 spectators since its release on July 15.
These excellent results reflect the success of this Luc Besson production in other international territories, particularly in Eastern Europe. 2.8 million admissions were registered in Russia where the film was released early March on 500 prints (see our news article), 200,000 admissions in Hungary (released early April on 25 prints), and 75,000 admissions in Poland (released late April on 50 prints),
And, in a rare feat for a French film, Taxi 4 was released in a number of Near and Middle Eastern countries in the spring, including the United Arab Emirate (18 prints), Qatar (2 prints), Lebanon (5 prints),
Kuwait (7 prints), as well as in Turkey (50 prints). These regions are traditionally difficult markets for film product, and French films are no exception.
