Organized by the French Embassy in Vienna and the Votiv Cinema, in association with Unifrance, the 5th Vienna Francophone Film Festival will be held March 14 through 27 this year.
The festival program comprises 24 films screened for the first time in Austria, from 10 French-speaking countries (Belgium, Burkina Faso, Canada, Egypt, France, Lebanon, Morocco, Romania, Switzerland and Tunisia) and 13 short films. Three French preview screenings are scheduled at the event: “Sex is Comedy,” screened in the presence of its director Catherine Breillat, Friday March 14 (distributed in Austria by Filmladen), “The True Story of My Life in Rouen” by Olivier Ducastel and Jacques Martineau, Saturday March 15, with the directors in attendance (distributed by Polyfilm) and "Petites Coupures," screened March 18, in the presence of Pascal Bonitzer (Austrian distributor: Filmladen).
The French artistic delegation also includes director Claire Denis, whose film "Friday Night" will open the festival March 14, as well as Jérôme Bonnell, Nathalie Boutefeu and Florence Loiret Caille for "Le Chignon d’Olga."
The director Jean-Paul Civeyrac will be in the spotlight this year with the festival presenting his two latest films. The Short Film Night (held March 15 from 10 p.m. onwards) is one of the highlights for audiences at the event.
Festival screenings will take place at the Votiv Cinema, owned by Filmladen, the leading distributor of French films in Austria.
