Brought together at a special meeting Monday February 17, 2003, following the tragic death of its President, Unifrance’s Board of Directors unanimously joined actress Jeanne Moreau in paying tribute to Daniel Toscan du Plantier:
“Daniel Toscan du Plantier chose Unifrance in 1988. From that time, he made the inspired decision to believe in the international destiny of French cinema. Patiently and tirelessly, for 15 years, he traveled the four corners of the world, encouraging French artists and professionals to do the same. He campaigned for the international movie scene to come within the reach of French cinema. It was in Berlin, where he wanted to see the future of European cinema conceived, that death took him from us. His drive and energy were infectious. His clear insight into the strengths and weaknesses of French cinema helps us to reflect and to move forward. He will be sorely missed. He is no longer here to guide us. But the spirit of what he has built remains, and it is this positive and determined vision that we must keep intact.”
For the continued functioning of Unifrance, whose activities were built and shaped to such a marked degree by Daniel Toscan du Plantier, the Board of Directors made the decision the same day to entrust the Presidency of the association in the interim to the Management Committee, composed of the following members:
Romain Goupil and Jacques Le Glou, Vice-Presidents
Marie Masmonteil, Treasurer
Pierre-Marie Jouany, Secretary
Philippe Muyl and Nicolas Brigaud-Robert, rapporteurs from the Artistic and Economic Committees, respectively.
Catherine Breillat and Pascal Diot, representatives from the Artistic and Economic Committees, respectively.
The Board reiterated its complete confidence in the association’s General Manager, Véronique Bouffard, and her management team, who, under the responsibility of the Management Committee, will make all decisions necessary to ensure the efficient functioning of the association in this interim period.
