Patrick Alessandrin's film "Mean Spirit," produced by Vertigo Productions and sold by Pathé Distribution, has made a fine debut in Hong Kong.
"Mean Spirit" was released August 25 on 25 prints, including one print released in original version and 24 dubbed in Cantonese. The highly popular local radio presenter/comedian Erik Kot dubbed the voice of the baby and participated in the film's promotion.
The film hit the top spot at the box office on its opening weekend, and tallied HK$5.6 million by September 7 (for 112,000 admissions). Released in 9 countries to date, "Mean Spirit" has registered its best results in Belgium and Hungary, with 155,000 admissions and 54,000 admissions respectively. This film can thus stand out as a French comedy that strikes the right note with Hong Kong audiences.
