The year 2025 ended on a high note for French animated films shown on the big screen internationally. According to the provisional figures available, they drew 13.2 million admissions across five continents (making it the third-highest annual total after 2015, with 21.7 million, and 2017, with 15.2 million). What’s particularly striking is that animation accounted for 34.3% of international viewers of French films in 2025: this represents their highest market share ever! The top 10 films by admissions include three animated titles, all three of which each drew millions of admissions: Flow (minority-French production, 7.8 million), Pets on a Train (2.3 million), and Night of the Zoopocalypse (minority-French production, 1.7 million).
Since the beginning of 2026, about 60 animated feature films have been showing in theaters outside France. Pets on a Train has climbed to the top of the charts, driven by an additional 563,000 admissions, including 267,000 in Poland (Monolith, €1.39 million in box office revenues), 70,000 in Vietnam (CGV, €0.19 million), and 65,000 in the Czech Republic (AQS, €0.43 million). As for Little Amélie or the Character of Rain, it has sold 126,000 tickets in Mexico (Canibal, €0.39 million), 63,000 in Italy (Lucky Red, €0.39 million), and 34,000 in China (China Film, €0.18 million). Finally, Arco, distributed in over 30 markets, has attracted the most moviegoers in the United States and English-speaking Canada (Neon, $1 million, or nearly 90,000 admissions), in Mexico (Mubi, 70,000 and €0.21 million), and in China (China Film, 25,000 admissions and €0.13 million).
Half of the films in the top 10 above are French co-productions initiated by foreign partners. Among these is Chickenhare and the Secret of the Groundhog (Belgium), which drew 105,000 Vietnamese viewers (CGV, €0.28 million), 58,000 Spanish viewers (Selecta Visión, €0.38 million), 53,000 Polish viewers (M2, €0.29 million), and 35,000 Turkish viewers (CGV, €0.14 million). Robot Dreams (Spain) added 84,000 admissions to its excellent run in China, where it has sold 463,000 tickets (China Film, €2.38 million), while Night of the Zoopocalypse (Canada, Belgium) drew 53,000 Turkish viewers (CGV, €0.17 million). Meanwhile, 21,000 Ukrainians (Adastra, €0.07 million) and 18,000 Croatians (Blitz, €0.10 million) discovered Spiked (Luxembourg, Belgium).
Many of the films mentioned above, as well as The Legendaries, will continue their international tours in the coming months. The lineup will be rounded out by new releases, such as Jim Queen, Iron Boy, The Songbirds' Secret, Lovebirds, and Yugly (minority-French production). The highly anticipated Asterix: the Kingdom of Nubia will open in theaters abroad in December.
