Unifrance congratulates all the nominees and winners of the César and Oscar Awards 2025! Gathered in Paris on Friday February 28th for the 50th Césars, some of the nominees flew to Los Angeles the following day to prepare for the Oscars, the two ceremonies traditionally taking place on the same weekend.
After winning seven Césars at the César du Cinéma Français 2025, held on Friday, February 28, Jacques Audiard's Emilia Pérez walked away with two statuettes (out of a record 13 nominations) from the Oscars 2025: the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress was awarded to Zoé Saldaña, while the Oscar for Best Original Song went to “El mal” by Camille, Clément Ducol, and Jacques Audiard.
Jacques Audiard's film joins a long list of French films nominated and sometimes awarded in various categories at the Oscars, including Michel Hazanavicius' The Artist in 2012, Michael Haneke's Love in 2013, and Justine Triet's Anatomy of a Fall last year.
The Oscar for Best International Feature Film went to the Brazilian film I'm Still Here by Walter Salles, co-produced for France by Thierry De Clermont-Tonnerre and Martine De Clermont-Tonnerre (MACT Productions), and Arte France Cinéma.
Flow by Gints Zilbalodis, co-produced for France by Ron Dyens from Sacrebleu Productions, won the Oscar for Best Animated Feature, after having won the César in the same category three days earlier.
We should also note that the Oscar for Best Makeup and Hairstyling went to French trio Pierre-Olivier Persin, Stéphanie Guillon, and Marilyne Scarselli for their outstanding work in The Substance by French director Coralie Fargeat.
Most of the nominated and awarded films continue to be released worldwide. Sold – in addition to its international release on Netflix – in over 50 territories, Emilia Pérez will soon release in South Korea and Japan where Jacques Audiard will travel in mid-March, for the French Film Festival in Yokohama. The film is still playing in cinemas around the world, notably in Italy, where it topped the 500,000 admissions mark.
Among the César-winning films, we also find the teams behind Holy Cow and The Story of Souleymane in New York for Rendez-Vous With French Cinema which opens on March 6. The Larrieu brothers' Jim's Story, will also be presented.
Last but not least, The Count of Monte Cristo will open the French Film Festival in Yokohama in the presence of directors Matthieu Delaporte and Alexandre De La Patellière, and actress Anamaria Vartolomei.
