Hémisphères Éditions released the book 25 ans de cinéma français à l'étranger, (25 years of French Cinema Abroad) edited by Gilles Renouard, Deputy Managing Director of Unifrance, on December 10, 2020. A retrospective look at how French cinema has fared beyond French borders for a quarter of a century.
Digital innovations, superheroes, platforms, and wars between movie theaters: this book first explores the major issues of the last twenty-five years. Then it examines in detail the position of French cinema in the main countries, revealing the Russians' taste for French comedy, the Italians' loyalty to popular films, the Americans' attachment to the New Wave, the Japanese' love of Parisian romances, and the Mexicans' curiosity for genre films.
Drawing on the work of Unifrance, the organization responsible for promoting French cinema worldwide, this first-hand information is backed up by testimonials and research, collected and carried out by the very people who follow the careers of French films throughout the world all year round. The book (in French only) thus provides an unprecedented insight into the circulation of these films.
