Malaysian exhibitor Golden Screen Cinemas has chosen The Specials by Olivier Nakache and Éric Toledano to be at the heart of its 2020 autism awareness campaign. The film will be screened starting September 24 in 23 cinemas of the GSC chain across the country for two weeks.
GSC is the leading Malaysian operator with 340 screens and 40% of the Malaysian market. Its teams welcomed a delegation of French exporters led by UniFrance as part of a study tour and a regional market in Kuala Lumpur in the summer of 2019 for a visit to their Mid Valley complex, one of the largest in Asia with 21 screens.
GSC is also the partner of the French film festival organized each spring by the
Ambassade de France and the Alliance Francaise.
With 2.4 films seen per inhabitant, in 2018 Malaysians had a higher average attendance than several European countries.
The film, acquired by the firm's distribution arm GSC Movies from Gaumont, will be screened starting September 24 in 23 theatres of the GSC chain across the country. In addition, GSC Aurum at The Garden Malls shopping center in Kuala Lumpur is hosting a flea market whose profits, along with a portion of the film's box office receipts, will be donated to charity.
