Recently awarded a César, Grandpa Walrus by Lucrèce Andreae is enjoying a fine international career. Until the end of the month, UniFrance is providing an opportunity for you to discover it.
Revealed at last year's edition of the Festival de Cannes (selected for Official Competition), the first short film by Lucrèce Andreae has since being attracting attention for almost a year at many international events. Presented, in particular, in Japan, the USA, Australia, Russia, and Canada, the film has already been selected more than fifty times, and has won twenty awards.
Grandpa Walrus tells the tale of a family across three generations who have come to a glacial beach to pay homage to their dead grandfather. With a subtle blend of ordinariness and solemnity, the film tackles themes of grief and passing on knowledge, without ever getting weighed down.
A former student of the Gobelins school of visual arts, who also studied at La Poudrière, with Grandpa Walrus, Lucrèce Andreae has succeeded in making a fantasy comedy with a unique tone.
