In 2017, Unifrance is putting in place a new selective aid mechanism aimed at improving and revitalizing distribution strategies for French films in foreign markets.
According to this new system, a committee composed of senior industry professionals will meet five times annually to examine theatrical release plans and new initiatives for distributing French films abroad proposed by distributors from any country around the world, without exception.
Its objective is to enhance the visibility of French cinema in international markets and encourage innovative solutions by assisting distribution companies in their efforts to release French productions. In this way, UniFrance is strengthening practical initiatives aimed at promoting French cinema abroad and reinforcing the work undertaken by sales companies.
The committee, which met for the first time on February 2, 2017, includes the producer Grégoire Lassalle, sales agents Virginie Devesa (Alpha Violet), Gilles Sousa (Bac Films), and Charlotte Boucon (SND), the producer Sandrine Brauer (En Compagnie des Lamas), the distributor Thierry Lacaze (Goodfellas), and an observer Frédéric Josué (from Havas Médias, who is not present in the photo) for issues concerning digital development.
