The Golden Globes Awards ceremony was held on the evening of January 8, with the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) honoring Paul Verhoeven's film Elle with two awards: Best Foreign Film and Best Actress in a Motion Picture, Drama.
"Oh my God, thank you! My heart is beating! If you knew what was going on in here! Thank you for letting me be who I am."
These are the emotional words of Isabelle Huppert as she accepted her award for Best Actress in a Motion Picture, Drama, at the Golden Globe Awards, and expressed her delight at achieving this mark of recognition in the United States. The awards ceremony was recorded live from the Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles. Only a few hours earlier, the actress had been presented with the Best Actress Award from the Los Angeles Film Critics Association.
This award places the French star in a leading position in the race for the upcoming Oscars, to be held on February 26. Huppert is currently included in the shortlist of nine actresses vying for the Best Actress Award, with the final list of five nominees to be announced on January 24.
Elle has incidentally just crossed the $1 million admissions mark in North America and now ranks as the most successful French film shot in the French language released in the USA in 2016.
