The first Mercado del Cine Francés will take place in Miami from March 8 through 10, 2016, with an opening cocktail on March 7. 17 French film exporters and 29 distributors from Latin American countries are expected to attend.
For many years, Unifrance has wanted to bring together French sales agents and distributors from Latin America. The recent successes, in this part of the globe, of The Intouchables, Serial (Bad) Weddings, The Little Prince, The Bélier Family, and Beauty and the Beast have helped to develop the idea of specific promotion of French cinema in these countries, which pay such special attention to it.
National cinema is fragile and the diversity of propositions encourages spectators to discover other works. French cinema has the chance of being able to address audiences that are keen on blockbusters, as well as more artistically demanding spectators. It offers another alternative, between Hollywood films and local productions, and provides a vision of a different world, geographically distant, but close in terms of feelings and culture.
The Miami International Film Festival, now celebrating its 33rd edition, was the ideal framework for the first edition of the Mercado del Cine Frances, with the firm intention that this market shall become a place for encounters and exchange.
26 film screenings will take place in the Regal Cinemas, and meetings will be arranged in the Standard Spa Miami Beach Hotel.
