The film by Deniz Gamze Ergüven, a majority French production (produced by Charles Gillibert for CG Cinéma) was several major prizes at the Sarajevo Film Festival.
The latest Sarajevo Film Festival closed on 22 August, 2015, with its Awards Ceremony, under the leadership of the jury President, Romanian filmmaker Călin Peter Netzer.
The film that caused a sensation during the festival's twenty-first edition was indisputably Mustang by Deniz Gamze Ergüven, already presented at the latest Directors' Fortnight in May, which recounts how five teenage sisters with a thirst for freedom are locked up by their family in order to preserve their purity until marriage.
Mustang not only won the Heart of Sarajevo for Best Feature Film, which the director was present to accept (photo), its five young protagonists, Gunes Sensoy, Doga Zeynep Doguslu, Tugba Sunguroglu, Elit Iscan et Ilayda Akdogan also jointly won the Heart of Sarajevo for Best Actress.
