During the 37th Festival de Clermont-Ferrand, which took place from January 30 through February 7, Unifrance organized its now traditional networking breakfasts.
Buoyed by the earlier success these meetings enjoyed at the Cannes and Annecy festivals, this year three breakfasts were arranged.
Organized in partnership with our French-speaking colleagues from Sodec, Swiss Films, and Wallonie-Bruxelles Images (WBI), these breakfasts brought together a total of 200 people, allowing our member producers to exchange, in a convivial and informal manner, with distributors (RTI, Turner, Pacific Voices, Egoist, among others) and programmers from major international film festivals (Toronto, Locarno, Seoul, Rio, etc.).
With a view to diversity and renewal, many festivals with whom UniFrance has yet to establish official partnerships (Sundance Channel, Encounters, Seattle), as well as distribution newcomers, (Other Voices, Feel Makers) were invited. In keeping with the tradition of the annual study undertaken by UFI, this opening up enabled a more complete overview of the current situation for short films.
Another new element was added this year. A morning meeting, focused on European cooproduction strategies, was organized as a sidebar event to the EuroConnection forum. It assumed a more institutional aspect, with the presence, in particular, of representatives from MEDIA - Europe Creative, the CNC, and its Swiss, Belgian, and Quebec colleagues. It was an occasion for our members to familiarize themselves with the advantages and structures of international film financing and to initiate coproductions.
