Within the framework of the Franco-German Film Academy, set up in June 2000 by the German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder and French President Jacques Chirac, French and German industry professionals resolved to hold annual Franco-German Film Meetings (French title: Les rendez-vous franco-allemands du cinéma) aimed at strengthening cooperation between the two countries’ movie industries.
The second Franco-German Film Meetings will take place from November 26 though 28, 2004, at the Insitut Lumière in the French city of Lyon.
During this event, French and German movie professionals will be invited to attend several workshops, addressing the following themes:
- Co-productions between France and Germany, using concrete examples of co-productions currently underway (“The Daltons,” “Joyeux Noël,” “Valley of Flowers,” “20 nuits”)
- European film funding incentives
- The circulation of films
- From the director's perspective
- The fight against piracy
- Image education
- The television channel Arte meets with industry professionals
In the evenings, film screenings will be held as a follow up to the discussions.
Among participants at this event, the following professionals have already committed themselves: the directors of the CNC and the FFA, directors of several German regional support funds, directors of film departments at the Arte television channel, producers and directors (including François Ozon, Dominik Moll, Julie Bertuccelli, Tonie Marshall, Catherine Breillat, Romain Goupil, Oskar Roehler, Caroline Link and Christian Petzold), distributors and representatives of professional unions.
