Jean-Paul Salomé, president of Unifrance, has been asked to join the CNC - Centre national du cinéma et de l’image animée committee deciding which French film should be selected for the Academy Awards.
French Minister of Culture and Communication Aurélie Filippetti has appointed the new members of the committee responsible for selecting the French film in the running for the Academy Award for Foreign Language Film.
Currently comprising seven members, this committee is regularly renewed and revolves around two permanent members: the president of the CNC's "Advance Against Receipts" committee (currently Serge Toubiana, who is also the director of the Cinémathèque Française), and the delegate general of the Cannes International Film Festival, Thierry Frémont.
The five new members are the president of Unifrance, film director Jean-Paul Salomé, filmmakers Agnès Jaoui, Régis Wargnier, and Mia Hansen-Løve, as well as producer Alain Terzian.
The committee will meet this September to select, from the French films released between October 1, 2013 and September 30, 2014, the successor to Renoir, selected for the 2014 Academy Awards (although it did not make it to the Academy's shortlist).
The 87th Academy Awards ceremony will take place on February 22, 2015.
