Synopsis
From Parmenides to Einstein, from Newton to Stephen Hawking, Avatars of the Void traces the history of a concept: the void. Born from nothingness, from which it distinguished itself from the very beginning, the void has travelled through the history of science, undergoing a series of profound and radical transformations.
Yet the life of the void is, paradoxically, a rich and densely woven one. It extends far beyond science, touching everything from pure abstraction to sausage packaging. My father, the founder of a company called Le Vide Industriel ("Industrial Vacuum"), devoted his life to vacuum pumps. In a very real sense, it was the void that fed me, clothed me, and paid for my education.
Through a journey that weaves together science, philosophy, and personal history, the film explores the nature of the void in all its forms: physical, cosmological, ontological, industrial, and even intimate.
