Synopsis
A contemporary adaptation of Choderlos de Laclos’s 18th-century classic tale of seduction, betrayal, and revenge, set in the modern world of 1960s Parisian high society. The beautiful Madame de Merteuil seeks revenge on her ex-lover Gercourt when he becomes engaged to her young goddaughter, Cécile. Merteuil turns to her former lover and accomplice, Valmont—famous for his reputation as a Don Juan—to seduce Cécile and emotionally destroy her. During his mission, Valmont becomes distracted when he visits his aunt and falls in love with Madame Tourvel, a virtuous married woman who knows his ways of seduction, but this only makes the challenge all the more exciting for Valmont. Madame de Merteuil and Valmont form a dangerous team, and they will stop at nothing when it comes to matters of the heart.
