Synopsis
Some 380,000 years after the Big Bang, baryonic oscillations were propagating in the plasma. These then fossilised as the Universe cooled. Mappers of the nearby Universe have recently observed this fossil of baryonic waves which constitutes the first image of the Universe. We inhabit space at least as much as stars and comets and we are made up of their remains. The material that makes up a simple coffee pot, and the coffee that inhabits it, are repositories of memories of baryonic oscillations comparable to those whose traces were observed 820 million light years from Earth.
