About
As I was looking a few years ago for a present to give on Mother’s day, I came across Calamity Jane’s Letters to her daughter. I then discovered the explosive and colorful personality of this woman, one of the rare heroine in a men’s world, who gave a little bit of her legend up in order to write a simple testimony of her everyday life in the Far West. Through her words, her harrowing love overflew for Janey, the little girl she couldn’t raise. I fell in love with this text and I knew I would do something with it, someday… This desire became my diploma film for the school La Fémis. I then imagined what could have answered Janey to this inheritance of words and regrets.
By combining these two voices, as well as film archives, photographs, music and ancient sounds, I tried to find the baroque character of Calamity Jane, an heroine whose legend crossed lies and truth.
