Julien was born in Paris, whereas his mother was born in Hanoi, and his grandmother was the granddaughter of a mixed-blood couple. Although they are faraway, twenty-year-old Julien suddenly feels overwhelmed by an irrepressible urge to reconnect with his maternal origins. Driven by a love for film, he sets up a traveling cinema in Vietnam, accompanied by a small crew. They travel throughout Vietnam, from the north to the south, in a van, organizing screenings and animation workshops in orphanages.
