1942. Srulik, a young Polish Jew, manages to escape from the Warsaw ghetto. He hides in the forest, then finds refuge at Magda's place. Magda is a young Catholic who is under surveillance by the Germans. He must leave her and goes from farm to farm trying to find work in order to feed himself. To survive, he must forget his name and hide the fact that he's Jewish.
