Synopsis
The Red and The Black, based on an unshot script by Luc Moullet, draws a crazy portrait of the famous inventor of movie cameras Jean-Pierre Beauviala — also distinguished for his close collaboration with Jean-Luc Godard — and his firm Aaton.
In this fiction, two thieves, Peneglote and Polylope are commissioned to steal the Penelope, the latest Aaton camera. We will follow closely, through the advanced software of dubious engineers and the expert eye of a shady managing director, the fabrication of a more and more supernatural hybrid form. In their quest, Peneglote and Polylope speak an imaginary language and accumulate Freudian slips and lapsus…
This movie, the first one about Aaton, is at once a portrait of a genius inventor, a fiction involving two robbers and an essay using unseen historic footage from Beauviala’s archives.
