Sunny and the Elephant
Synopsis
Sunny and the Elephant takes place in the virgin forests in Northern Thailand. Sunny, a teenager, dreams of becoming an elephant driver, but Boon, his elderly master, refuses to give him a chance. Added to which, the mechanization of the timber industry obliges the elephant drivers and their elephants to leave the forests. All that’s left for them to do is to go to Bangkok. There, they live off begging from tourists who feel sorry for these elephants left to wander in the urban jungle.
Fortunately, Nicholas, a young European veterinarian, volunteers to take Boon, his family and Dara back to the forests so that they, along with other elephant drivers and elephants, can become forest wardens. Together, Dara, Boon and Sunny must shape their own destinies. Dara, a domesticated elephant, must readapt to being in the wild. Boon must overcome his prejudices and accept to transmit the secrets of his ancestors to Sunny, while, most importantly, the teenager must become capable of forming a team with Dara, and of confronting the jungle.
