70-year-old Adrien is in sole command of his land. From high in his mountain pasture, where he lives alone with his cows, he dominates the villages of the Hérens valley, smiles at man’s pointless bustle, and speaks to the stars. This stubborn man from the Valais region, rarely inclined to compromise, is a rebel by principal who says little. But when he does speak, it’s serious; he is feared and respected. In his valley, he is nicknamed “God,” and it would take little for him to almost believe it’s true. With his friends, Adrien decides to set out on a long journey. This year’s destination is China. However, when his young nephew from the city, with his phony enthusiasm and talkative nature, joins the group, Adrien withdraws even more into himself and into silence. It will take the whole journey, all the way to China, intercut with adventures and encounters, for Adrien to understand that he only ruled over his kingdom while he was alone…
