Synopsis
Esther, a budding writer, is trying to get her first novel published. Her parents picture her as the perfect, flawless daughter, a role that she tends to docilely accept, easily capitulating to her mother’s wishes. This is why she must soon marry David, a young doctor.
Tossed around between her mother, intensely focused on organizing the wedding, her sister who advises her to think twice, her future husband who goes weak in the knees for her best friend, and a medium who predicts an imminent encounter with another man, Esther is beginning to really wonder. It’s just then that she accidentally meets Adam, a childhood friend. The encounter will change the course of her existence. The moment has come when she must make a choice, reinvent her life, be herself at last.

About
A lively comedy about premarital cold feet and the debut feature for Amsalem, When Angels Interfere explores the gray areas between doing what your family and friends expect, and following your instincts. Esther (Laurence Côte), a young Jewish Parisian writer, is trying to get her first novel published and is soon to be married to David, a handsome young doctor, who’s part of her Sephardic Jewish community. Everything seems to be ideal—but Esther’s caught up in a maelstrom of inner anxiety and doubt, provoked by a clairvoyant who’s filling her head with strange premonitions. In French with English subtitles. Description adapted from the Avignon/New York Film Festival.
