About
"'Milestones' sprang from my distress and soul-searching following a sudden death. How can a group of young guys survive the vacuum that's been created? How is death treated in Western Europe? I've traveled a bit, and I've been amazed to discover mourning rites and customs that are totally different from ours. So I wanted to challenge our vision of things, of the moral rule which exists in the West, beyond anybody's individual beliefs. In the film, the guys are face-to-face with death over a 48-hour period, forced to stick with the remains of their buddy. They wind up evolving both geographically—since they decide to honor their friend's memory by taking the body to Italy—and personally, through the intimate situation they find themselves in. What interests me is the way in which such situations can be transcended."
(Alain Beigel, Director, excerpt from an interview published in "Unifrance Film Newsletter," No. 19)
