About
In “Aprile” I make out that I am unwilling or unable to direct a docu-mentary film that people are demand-ing from me, but in fact it is there at the heart of the movie. I show what I wanted to show! “Aprile” is perhaps my most intimate film in that it features my family, but it is also my most political. I didn’t make it out of any sense of duty to myself or to the world at large, or because I felt obliged to document the present trend in Italian politics. It is merely a way of trying to understand what happened, and to leave some trace of it in cinematic form. (Nanni Moretti - excerpt from an interview in Télérama magazine, 20 May 1998)
