Synopsis
"Hantises" is freely inspired by a short story by Guy de Maupassant. During a journey, a young man loses his travelling companion. Penniless, he is taken in by an old man who lives in a remote house by the sea. This old man lives alone, absorbed in himself, in this "other" who haunts him and who little by little takes possession of his being. The young man stays on. But is he doing so of his own free will ? Isn't he rather compelled to stay ? Doesn't he slowly identify with the "other" ?

About
"The three actors survive, because they live in a kind of no-man's land, a space somewhere between life and death, near to dream, or in this case, nightmare. Perhaps the film unfolds entirely in the minds of the characters, each event perceived rather than lived. My main concern (apart from the natural anxiety of making one's first film) when we started shooting was that I wouldn't manage, due to lack of means, to make the film I had imagined. We only saw the first images on video, three weeks into the shoot. Yet during the editing I realised that the film was more like me than I'd thought." (Michel Ferry)
